I just discovered this newsgroup and after reading some posts, it seems you
may be able to help me.
I wish to replace my CD rom with a CD writer.My computer is a 533 MHz
Celeron HP machine with 192 Mb of ram and no spare bay to accommodate an
additional 5.25 drive.I also have a very old external Kodak writer connected
to USB and Nero burning software.My intention is to retain the Kodak writer
as an emergency CD rom unit.

I removed the CD rom and installed a new Asus CRW 5224A without any problems
and retained the same jumper setting.The software supplied was Nero Express
and Incd.Nero loaded O.K. but the Incd software crashed each time I tried
and the new writer burns O.K. but will not function as a CD rom.
The posts I have read on similar but not identical problems seem to indicate
a possible clash with already installed cd software. I have Adaptec CD
recording previously installed.
The other potential problem seems to be with the BIOS and I understand there
is a channel setting which must be on auto ?
Do you agree and are there any other things I should be doing ?
