On my 8100AV the cd player died on me last week. I took it to an Apple reseller to take a look at it an was told a new mechanism was needed. My warranty expired five weeks ago and did I feel cheesed off. Condidering that the CD hardly gets a use except the occassional software cd, I thought I would ring Apple customer relations to see if there is anything they could do about it. I got the Bad luck you should have got the extended warranty - and now YOU will have to shell out a couple of hundred dollars - not us. The player was the sony mechanism double speed that was bundled with most macs. Does this mechanism have such a short lifespan of around a year? Should I talk to Sony? Any suggestions? Thanks Andrew
