The client PC is the system that halts.  It is running MS-DOS 6.2.
The CD-ROM drive is on the client PC.
The Server is running LAN Server 3.0 under OS/2 2.1.
This is a Token-Ring network running @ 16 bps.
After the client PC runs the NET.EXE program to access the LAN, any 
attempt to execute or read a file on the CD-ROM, halts the client PC.
