How to work appletview?

I'm not quite sure I understand how to get the appletviewer to open a .class
file.

I know the command (while being in the folder is) from the dos prompt is:

appletviewer Test.class

and the import java.applet.*;

but when I do the command at the dos prompt I get this message:-

warning: No Applets were started. Make sure the input contains an <applet>
tag. usage: appletviewer [-debug] [-j<javaflag>] [-encoding <character
encoding type>] url | file ...

Could someone please explain this to me, as I cannot find anything in this
book about it ?

thanks
Paul from Brisbane
