This is my understanding of applets: (I found your definition somewhat hard
to understand/vague)

Java applets programs that are incorporated into web pages. They are
[down]loaded from the server and run on a client PC. They may or may not
have access to the server computer, depending on current security settings.
As such they are NOT server-side applications, but rather client-side, ie,
they use YOUR CPU, not the servers.

Tom's definition of Javascript is good.

Oh, and my 2c on java in general... It is a GREAT language, and heaps more
secure and safe for your computer than ActiveX applets. Don't get me started
on ASP or MS in general ... I only use it out of neccesity, not choice.
