Can anyone explain what is happening with the Sydney Java User's Group
(SJUG)? My attempts to find out:

First: Novell (8281 3400)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems that Novell has moved from North Sydney and in the process they
seem to have lost SJUG! I phoned the Novell switch and was told that they no
longer run the user group (or at least there was no evidence that they did).
I left a message with someone whom the switch seems to think was associated
with the user group (but now spends most of his time overseas). I'm not
hopeful.

Second: The old web site (http://www.ajug.org.au/sjug/index.html)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This seems to be no longer available. Anyhow, even when it was available, it
hadn't been updated in 18 months.

Third: The main Java user group web sites (http://www.ajug.org.au/)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This page is also not available - now we're getting weird.

Fourth: Sun Australia (1 800 628 193)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
After speaking to someone at Sun, it seems that not only don't they know of
specific Java user groups in Australia, but (wait for this) they are also
not aware of the concept of 'user groups' in general - I had to explain the
sort of things that go on at user group meetings.

I can't help thinking that combining: a city of 4 million people with one of
the most popular and fastest growing languages (Java), should lead to the
need to have a thriving and active user group. Or am I out of touch? Has the
internet killed the personal interaction and hands-on activities that a user
group can provide?

Andrew Jens.
