An answer to my own question.
A good theoretical book for me was "The Little Book of Object-Oriented
Programming" by Henry Ledgard.
I describes the development of user-defined types through Pascal, Ada
,Eiffel ,C and C++. Very clear introduction to theoretical concepts.
