I've been wandering around the bookshops looking for the
same thing. But, you know, I reckon that the books are
overpriced. Most of them don't seem to hit the mark.

I've found that there are many (MANY) web sites that
freely offer Java information and tutorials. And,
somehow, they seem to work better than books. Sure, you
can't take one on a tram with you, but the whole Java
concept includes a heavy emphasis on web integration. It
just seems more natural to study Java online.

Anyway, the following link will lead you to a very good
book that can be downloaded in PDF or MS Word format,
printed and read. But I strongly recommend that you check
out the online tutorials, etc.

You could also check out the usenet, but, to be frank, the
signal to noise ratio on the Java ngs significantly
reduces their value.
