Hi, Just wondering if anyone can give me any pointers on how Id go about displaying HTML within a Java Application/Applet. Am I crazy? Are there third party packages availible? Are there built in classes that will do it? It doesnt have to be anything too powerfull. Im not looking to rewrite netscape. But it would help me no end if I could send an HTTP request from within a program and display the relativly simple HTML it returns (a table is about the most complicated thing I need to display). Cheers -Daniel

hi,
What want to do is possible by a simple feature of java..
here are two lines of code showing how in one of programs written by me i have
called html pages and images.
-------------------------------
url = new URL("http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au/~dmun0275/java/Assleft.htm");
this.getAppletContext().showDocument (url , "mid");
-------------------------------
In the above two lines a string was converted to a URL type variable and then
it was called in the second line. "mid" if the frame name where that document
was displayed.
here is the URl if u want to see what i am talking about.
http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au/~dmun0275/java/javamain.htm
""So its very much possible and Java does it for you...""
the only limitation is the use of frames or you open another browser window.
if you are interested to see full code of the application you can send me an
email and i can send u the java code of that program.. Email address is on the
address given above.
I hope i was of some help...
Dinesh....

[This followup was posted to aus.computers.java and a copy was sent to the cited author.] In article <danielt-0907992124110001@192.168.0.17>, danielt@ihug.com.au says... | Hi, | | Just wondering if anyone can give me any pointers on how Id go about | displaying HTML within a Java Application/Applet. | | Am I crazy? No, but since you're in a browser, why not use it? | Are there third party packages availible? Yes, Sun's HotJava HTML component, ICEsoft's ice browser (best), Swing's JTextPane and many others. | Are there built in classes that will do it? To 1.1, no...1.2 (aka Java 2) yes. | It doesnt have to be anything too powerfull. Im not looking to rewrite | netscape. But it would help me no end if I could send an HTTP request from | within a program and display the relativly simple HTML it returns (a table | is about the most complicated thing I need to display). Why not just use showDocument()?
