Hi, I want to use java to do a quick search through a servier side text file for a string input by a user (in the applett in a web page). I think that the security issues prevent my applett from looking at the text file, is there any way around this?? Thanks in advance. TObin

As far as I know there is no problem with an applet reading any file from which is resides. So as long as the permissions are set correctly on the file that you wish to read from.. this usually means setting the file to readable by anyone (make sure you don't make it writable by anyone). The security manager will block any attempt to read a file from the user's hard-drive but any file on the server that it came from is ok.. Attempting to read a file off another server is a security exception and is also usually stopped. Hope that helps, nathan.
