Just quick message to see what everyones opinon is: What do you feel is the best IDE for doing personal Java projects (Small through to large sized). Ive used Visual Caf 2 but wasn't overly impressed, but ive not used the newer ones. Ive used Visual Age for Smalltalk, which i very much enjoyed, but i've not used the java version. Its focus on a multi user environment was anoying at times. So what do you think is the best? Daniel

For personal use, you just can't beat notepad. You can indent with the tab key - what could be simpler? And you don't have some app hiding your code away in weird directories or addiing stuff you didn't want. -------------------------------------------------------------- Repent! Quit your job! I think Kawa is one of the better IDEs, like notepad it also doesn't add stuff to your code or hide it in diffrent directorys. However unlike notpad you can save files as '.java', whereas notepad likes to save stuff as '.java.txt'. Also you don't have to have another dos box up to actually compile and run your program. you can find a demo for it at www.tek-tools.com PS, wouldn't tabs stuff up the shape of your code when viewed in other programs? Yer VAJ is great I love it!!!! I looked at Visual Cafe, JBuilder (A dog), Kawa pretty simple but good. All are good packages but expect you to use a file based system that is really out dated with Java. Visual Age for Javas repository based programming is much better as it bases your code on packages and allows versioning and team management. sure you can do this with the other but it means you have to use your own CVS. Also to Quin I downloaded Deja and had a play. It just demonstrates how small a download needs to be to have a perfectly functioning IDE. Well done! Its simple but it works and works well. I need to stick with VAJ until you release your EJB environment :-). Alan ps. I don't work for IBM! I just appreciate a breath of fresh air!
