Parsing is interpreting an input stream of tokens according to a grammar,
resulting in a tree of nodes where the leaves are tokens from the input
stream and the non-leaf nodes are language constructs, e.g. 'procedure' or
'sentence'. Have you been given a textbook for this subject? I wouldn't know
what to recommend today. Have you done a web search for 'compiler
construction tutorial' or something like that?

What subject are you doing (if your at usyd)? You should take a look at
your text book, but for a good introduction to it, the first year CS
textbook written by Jeff Kingston is realy good (in Blue though, not
Java). I'm talking about usyd btw.

Regards,

Ross..
