I need to find out what processor and what operating system that my java application was started under, so the questions are:- 1. How can I query the system processor in java? 2. How to find out what OS the application was started under? Many thanks for any comments or locations to source code examples. max

You can usually get this sort o finformation from the system properties list. See java.util.Properties class and the System.getProperties() method.
