I agree. It is a problem - although it's not nearly as much of a problem
as it used to be. In fact, nowadays, with a decent distribution, you
don't have to use the command line at all so long as you don't want to
do anything weird and your hardware is compatible. I've been using the
linux command line for 14 years now and i'm totally at home with it, but
i could have installed Fedora 9 on my laptop (a Thinkpad R61), and got
everything working properly, without using the command line once. That's
not always the case, of course.

However, you do have to know what you're doing if you're going to run
linux without problems - just like you do if you want to run windows
without problems. The idea that people who are completely technically
incompetent can run windows successfully is complete fantasy. When they
do it's almost always a disaster - even if they don't always realise it
straight away. Command line or no command line, it takes a fairly high
level of skill to keep a computer working properly, whether it's running
windows or linux.

Unless you need to use some specific software package to do something
that really can't be done with linux, then the only thing stopping you
divesting yourself of it now is you.
