As root I've set the hostname of my machine to Marvin but that doesn't seem to stick, and upon reboot it defaults back to localhost. I don't mind that, but when I connect to my ISP (camtech) the hostname - or a least the prompt - changes to [spr@dialup-ad-13-54 spr] You will probably be able to see a variation of the temporary hostname in the header of this message. Can somebody tell me why that happens or is it normal behavior in Linux? Steve -- Stephen Reynolds Adelaide South Australia Remove .your.pyjamas before replying to the ozemail address
