Hi Darrin,
    have you tried mounting the CDROM?
if so could you post the exact message that comes up during startup?
The place to check if your secondary IDE is enabled is in your BIOS.   You
could enable it here too.  If you are successfully using the CDROM under
another OS, the IDE is enabled though.
For X, try running XF86Config, or manually editing xf86config.
Again, it would be easier to help if you posted the exact output you get
when it fails.
