Well, I learned assembler programming on the Amiga the same way (i.e.
trial and error and error and error and error) and had some great wins
there (mind you I crashed the thing heaps of times as well!).  If you
check http://users.interact.net.au/~papk/program.html you'll see that
I'm not a complete fool but it must be taken in context.  That is, I
have two small kids who sleep by tag team and complicate my thought
processes somewhat!  I will say however that the Linux man pages do
sorely show their tinkerer's origins, and maybe that's why there is
such a plethora of docs to cover what should be some fairly simple
concepts. (e.g. the docs directory of the RH CDrom is 13.1 Mb in
size!).

I do appreciate you all staying onboard for this one however - just
getting the machines talking has been fun and I do think a
breakthrough is overdue!
