Howdy, I have a 1.2gb drive partitioned into two primary partitions: 1) Windows 95 700 mb 2) Windows 95+Office 2000 300mb. 3) Bootmanager (via Partition Magic V3) 2mb The rest was unformatted free space. 198mb I installed Redhat 5.0 with no problems, all stages complete ok, no installation checks. The install process created the Linux native partition with 160mb and the swap with 32mb. These were created inside the 198mb freespace on the drive. So far so good. When asked by the install process whether to install LILO in the MBR or in the BootManager partition I replied Bootmanager - thinking that I could get at the Linux partition thru it. After the install completed I rebooted into DOS on the Win95 partition so that I could add the Linux partition to the Bootmanager menu using Partition Magic V3. What has happened is that the Linux Native and Swap partitions have been created in what used to be the freespace on the HD but they are flagged as being part of a DOS extended partition. PartitionMagic has flagged this partition as 'bootable'. Although I can add this Linux partition to the Bootmanager menu the Linux entry does not show up on the Bootmanager menu when the machine is rebooted. Also if I make the Linux partition the active partition and reboot a message is displayed saying 'Can't locate Linux system'. What have I done wrong ?? I deleted the Linux partition and repeated whole process with same results. The book I bought doesn't have a lot of info so I'd appreciate some help. Cheers Mal. Willetton.
