wu-ftpd is the anonftp demon. ftpd is the one you want.

is it running? Two ways to check.

try ftping to the box - from your 486 booted from the linux
floppy you have should be the go.

If you can type
	ftp ip-of-pentium
from the 486 and get a login prompt, you are fine.

If you can't, you have to get that running first. It's usually started
up by /etc/inet.conf, so look at that file, find the ftp entry,
check all files referenced exist etc. if still problems, let me knwo.

OK, so you get a login prompt. Log in with your username and
password. Don't use root, it's a security hole, redhat have probably
closed said hole by not allowing root to do it. (Do not do your
normal work as root, always log in as a user and su to root)

check you can get ftp happening, and can cd to the cdrom dir. then boot
the 486 from the floppies you made and follow the prompts, using the ftp
method and plip as the driver.
