I think you have to have PLIP happening properly on the 
host box.

I had no problems with it, so I can't help much...  I plugged
it in, gave appropriate IPs and bingo.. was a long
time ago though.

Hmm.. maybe I had to tell the PLIP host to give the PLIP
client an ethernet address?
