Greetings Linuxians,
I have downloaded 2.1.132 (yep, all 12+ MB of it), unzipped &
extracted it. Did a "make oldconfig" - after copying an old .config
from my previous 2.0.33 kernel into the /usr/src/linux directory - all
sweet.
Then I tried the "make zImage" & got -
bash # make zImage
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2
-fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2
-malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -c -o init/main.o
init/main.c
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:263: Error: no such 386 instruction: `rdtsc'
{standard input}:275: Error: no such 386 instruction: `rdtsc'
make: *** [init/main.o] Error 1
Cute huh? I'm not a regular here, so if this is a FAQ just point me
in the right direction & I'll leave you all alone, but I have no
idea how to fix this. I'd rather not have to go & get another kernel
source if I can avoid it.
Any clues welcome. I'm running Slackware 3.0.
all the best
steve
