problem solved with a M$ intellimouse trackball and infrequent system hangups. Cure was to enter SU in console, run mouseconfig and uncheck "Emulate 3 button mouse". Now before anyone chastises me for acute dumbness, the Xwindows config file had this option disabled, so it was logical to assume that the console mode was also unchecked. so there, moosing arounf does finally solve problems. at leastr my moose doesn't make noises, probably because I don't have a sound card. Sound reasoning I suppose. :-} Louis
