Hard drives are partitioned accordingly:

IDE Channel 1 - Master - hda
                             Slave -hdb
IDE Channe 2 - Master - hdc
                             Slave - hdd

SCSI drives are not considered here since if you have a scsi drive, this
post would be ./.er.. cheeky.

All PC's have a hda

Those with a CDROM either have the CD as a slave, ie hdb, or as a master
onIDE2 as hdc.

Now all hard drives are partitioned as follows:

hda 1 1st primary partition
           2 2nd primary partition
           3 3rd "
           4 4th "
These partitions can contain Operating Systems., different providing
some means are given to choose a particular OS. In terms of Linux, Lilo
is loaded into the MBR and can provide 4 options for OS.

Under OS/2 one loads the boot manager. Windows - what partitions ?

hda can be further partioned into more drives - by first creating an
extended partition, and then creationg logical drives.

A typical Windows system: 1 physical hard drive, hda.

usually hda is formatted as C; these days as 4.3 Gb.

Wondeful. Windows and data are ? 1 Gb. 3.3 GB free. wrong.

If you have got this far, then post me a reply to continue.
