A rights issue???

I'm very new to Linux. I have been a minion of the evil Microsoft empire(I
have my MCSE) and now I'm defecting to Linux/Unix.

I'm running RedHat Linux 5.2. My question involves what I think is a rights
issue with my CD-ROM player. I have installed a cd player application that
works great while I'm logged in as root, but when I log into my personal
account, it doesn't work. I have given my personal account "superuser"
rights in linuxconf, and all the other rights also, but still the application
will not respond. By the way, I'm using Xfree86 (After-something) as my GUI.

Where can I find the CD-ROM object in my file manager so that I can define
what group it belongs to? Can the CD-ROM, or any file or other managable
object belong to more than one group? -Andy
