Hi,
I recently purchased a 1.0 Gb Fujitsu IDE drive, and added it to my
system. I partitioned it under DOS to use the first 500Mb for DOS,
with intent to use the rest for LINUX.

When I boot Linux, I get the following error during the boot partition
check (and also if I try to use the linux fdisk on it):

  unable to read partition table.

This drive does work perfectly under DOS. I have tried various bios
configurations to try and fool Linux as described in the InfoMagic
Quickstart guide, but they do not solve the problem.

This is a new installation of Linux (it was previously on an old
harddisk that I removed), so I cannot even make a custom kernal at
this point. Can someone PLEASE tell me what I have to do to convince
this thing to work??????????
