nslookup with no network

I am not connected to any network but would like nslookup to work so
that I can do some network programing on my machine with functions
like gethostbyname and bind(socket, s_addr, size). I am currently
running the Linux Slackware 2.0.20 kernel with the dummy network
interface installed (not as a module, doesn't work as a module for
some reason). I am not running named as advised. Any help or pointers
are very very greatly appreciated.

On receiving a reply from a previous post, I have done some
modifications to my configuration but still with no success. I know
it should be a simple problem, but due to inexperience on unix
networking, I'm stuck. But I ain't gonna give up till I get it. The
nslookup still does not work. Here's what it says :

wollix:~#nslookup wollix.temp.org
Server: wollix
Address: 0.0.0.0

*** wollix can't find wollix: No response from server

wollix:~#nslookup localhost
Server: wollix
Address: 0.0.0.0

*** wollix can't find wollix: No response from server

My modified files are as follows:
