Hi All, I have recieved many emails ref getting Linux on one bootable floppy and I thought this may be of assistance to others, so I share the following sugestions with you all. 1> yard-1.5.tar.gz is available on sunsite mirrors in Linux/system/ Recovery directory. This is "Yet Another Recovery Diskette" system that allows Perl5 scripts to load a single floppy with a selectable boot floppy based on your current kernel and configuration. It needs 1.3.48+ Kernel and of course Perl wersion 5. I've yet to try this approach because my kernel is 1.2.13 and until I am sure that there is a very reliable 2.0+ kernel I cannot afford to upgrade. 2> a bootfloppy both in a.out and elf formats are available from ftp.cistron.nl/pub/os/linux/install directory. The filenames are bootflop-a.out.img and bootflop-elf.img and are both 1.44Mb in size. These boot floppy images are then just simply copied to a 1.44Mb floppy and the system rebooted. I assume autoprobing must be on. I am in the middle of presently down-line-loading both of these files from original site. If anyone is interested I could put them in the /pub/incoming directory of zipper.zip.com.au. 3> A suggestion to use DLX. It works by compressing a current ramdisk image and therefore is autoconfigured to the current workstation and there is about a 130Kb free for other programs. This are is mounted as a loop-back device. The problem is I was not able to get to the suggested site holding DLX. Its suppose to be http://www.wu-wien.ac.at/usr/h93/h9301726/ dlx.html. It anyone is able to get to this site I would like a copy of this please. Additionally, I will be forced to uncompress and insert a individual IP address and host name for each student floppy. May not be a real problem as I 've only got to do 65 odd floppies. (ie: 65 students). 4> Another great suggestion was to floppy boot the LAN boot rom executabe so that the workstation gets acts like a diskless workstation and loads bootp from the Linux server. This is a real possibility that would automatically select a IP address from the bootp server. Now I will start testing out these suggestions to see which gives me the services I need for each students "hard-disk-less" workstation, without making each floppy disk creation a configuration nightmare. Many thanks to Ben, Danny, Charlie, Markus, Nelson, Jeffery, Cedric, Craig, Ken and others for assisting. Cheers Grahame.
