Hi Barbara, > I will only be able to allocate around 60MB of hard-disk space to > linux (which may be rather minimalist, especially given that I > have only 4MB of RAM). > 4Mb will be a bit tight for Linux; it likes something like 16Mb. It may run in 8Mb, not sure. If you have a CD-ROM drive, you can install Linux into as little as 10Mb of hard disk space. Slackware comes with a fully operating filesystem that you can run off the CD-ROM directly. > Worse, I don't like the idea of > repartioning my HDD - my software suggests that a full back-up > would require around 80 floppy disks, which sounds rather expensive. > You don't take backups now? <shudder> As for repartitioning your hard disk, get PartitionMagic. That's what I used to make space for my Linux partition - I had to MOVE two 500Mb partitions around to do it, and this program did it with ease. Trust me, it works. Sorry I can't help with your specific questions, but I hope this helps you with your decision. Don't be concerned with repartitioning your hard disk, it _can_ be done safely. Despite that comment, I would recommend you start taking backups... you never know. <g> Good luck! Cheers, Bert
