I'm hoping someone can throw light on this puzzling problem... I've just installed Slackware 96 off the Infomagic Sept. CDs. Being the type who likes playing around, I started to look at the startup scripts in /etc/rc.d. But after a little experimentation, I'm very confused. It appears that init is not using the runlevel 3 script (rc.M) from /etc/rc.d. No matter how I modify this script, the changes are not reflected at boot-up. And looking at the original script - it definitely was never executed. Yet init is definitely running *some* multi-user startup script from somewhere on the system. I've checked inittab - and it says runlevel 3 (the default runlevel) starts /etc/rc.d/rc.M. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be happening here? Does init (I'm assuming slackware still uses the SysV init) still use inittab in /etc? Am I just losing it :-) ? Any help would be appreciated. -- \'/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- `O.o' Ken Thomson (kthomson@zip.com.au) | #include <std_disclaimer> | Ook! \=/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------
