Problems with smail

Hi,
A short time ago, I have installed smail on my linux-server (I am not a linux-specialist).
But i have a big problem: The first time i make a login on my POP-Server
I have to enter my password and then I will get my mails. But if i change
my pop-account (e.g. in Netscape), I'll not be asked for the password, but i get the
mails of this new user. Normally by changing the pop-account I have to
enter a new password.
Only the owner has rights to write and read in the subdirectory 'mail'.
I am using shadow-passwords and for each user there is an asterix
in the second row of the file /etc/passwd.

Who can help me - it is really important!!!
        Thanks
              Franz
