THe RedHAt FAQ may have some info on this, however...

it uses a different network setup, but an easier one, believe it or
not.

basically, the system boots by running files in /etc/rc.d/init.d.

Which ones it runs depend on "runlevel", the usual one you have to worry
about is (I think) /etc/rc.d/rc3.d.  look in there, and you will see the
symlinks to init.d - it starts them in sorted order (ie numerical
order).

A look at the files in /etc/rc.d/init.d will tell you what variables
you need to set and where.  Check /etc/sysconfig and
/etc/sysconfig/network scripts.

It seems more complex than slack, but it ends up being a lot easier to
maintain and upgrade than a slack system.

For the quick and dirties, run X as root.  there is a tcl and python
based tool called "control-panel" which has an x based network setup
tool, and also handles changing what programs are run at startup.
(called "Sysv Init) .

If it's any consolation, many commercial unices use this system or a
variant thereof - it's a good idea to learn it.
