Kent Tong (freemant@wr.com.au) opined:
:
: I'm trying to use the built-in command bind to bind ^? (ie, del)
: to the readline function delete-char. It works if I enter the
: command directly. It doesn't work if I put it into .bashrc. I
: can use "bind -q delete-char" in .bashrc to verify that it does
: bind the key successfully in .bashrc but somehow the effect is
: gone when .bashrc has been processed. Any idea why?
:
Are we talking XWindow or a VC here? On my VCs, at least, the
'delete' key produces a literal of '^[[3~'. Also note that the
bindings you do for the shell mightn't work for programs the shell
calls.
