  Hmm... perhaps time to pull out the kernel debugger?  You should be
  able to monitor all the running processes and see is something is
  just getting bigger and bigger and.. etc...  (you can do that without
  the debugger)

  We had a classic with a incorrect .forward file for the guy aliased
  to receive root's email... 73 sendmails and it just kept climing...
  90mb of 100mb swap used (with 20mb real ram) :)

  See if you can't montior all the processors CPU utilisation, memory
  utils, and any hardware interrupts..
