linux newbie boot problem

G'day,

Hardware, DX2 66 M Oktek MB
             16Meg memory
              S3 video card
              vesa ide/floppy IF
              Maxtor 7540 Drive 1
              Fujitsu 2681 Drive 2

I downloaded Slackware bootdisk bare.gz and rootdisk color.gz
also disk series A (1-5).

When I ran the bootdisk (bare) my hardware was reported to the
screen. Both drives then Floppy drive A then FDC....... and
then the memory allocations.

I then ran the rootdisk, installed the partitions, installed the
disk series A and then wrote the Lilo loader to the MBR of Drive 0.

I then rebooted and yipeee Lilo let me boot my NT partition.

I then rebooted and booted linux, my hardware was reported to the screen
but after ( FDC 0 is a ....) and before ( memory .......) the system just
hangs.

Could anyone please enlighten me as I have exhausted all other avenues.
