Help: ethernet connection to win95 + modules

Hi All,

I have 2 machines at home, 1 running win95 and 1 running Linux
(1.3.20) and I want to network these via an ethernet & tcp/ip. I have
an Accton NE2000 card in each machine.

I have rebuilt the Linux kernel with (what I think) are the correct
modules compiled into the kernel. I did a 'make config' and enabled
the CONFIG_NE2000 option.

Also I have fiddled with 'route add ...' and ifconfig.

The 2 machines cannot see each other. Nothing seems to work. My
symptoms are:
    - when I ping from the win95 machine to the Linux machine the
ethernet lights (at the back of the card) flash
    - when I ping from Linux to win95 I get only 1 flash and not even
      that everytime

It seems as if Linux cannot see the ethernet card properly. However
when I boot, the kernel tells me it can see the ethernet card and
gives the correct irq etc.

I am also confused by the README.modules in /usr/src/linux. It says
that if you make the kernel then there are no drivers in it and they
must be made via modules and installed via modprobe or insmod.

What my questions are:
    - do I install the ne (and 8390) modules into the kernel or do I
      manually load them at runtime
    - has anyone done this and could they post/email the ifconfig and
static routing they did to realise the connection

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

    - Robi
