Can I swing something past you and take a wild guess that you are using the Slackware 3.0.0 distribution ?? I had exactly the same problem last week (I am new to Linux as well, though I have some minor Unix experience). Mount the system using a boot/root disk setup - which should be OK still, then go into the /sbin directory. One of the /rc.d files point to /sbin/mount which is actually a file link to /bin/mount. Problem is, the install gets the link wrong, and points to a directory instead of an executable file. To fix it, go into /sbin, and have a look at "mount". If it is pointing to a directory, try : "ln mount /bin/mount" I think that is the correct syntax. To test it out go into the /sbin directory and type "mount". If it works, you will get a list of currently mounted devices. Regards, CSE
