Sorry I did not make that very clear did I.
Linux will boot ok, but it has to probe for the SB16 CDROM drive.
The use of the boot: linux sbpcd= 0x230,SoundBlaster option allows you to
tell the sbpcd driver where to find the SB16 card CDROM interface.
However it still looks for a ATAPI drive before any SBPCD.

I am not sure why the sbpcd driver has to be told the 0x230 address.
It is the default CDROM interface address -- for the SB16 anyway.

I also have the RedHat 2.0 distribution.
The sbpcd driver in the RedHat distribution has to have most of the sound
card configurations included. The point of the kernel compilation is to
restrict the kernel to the configuration that you have.

You can use the boot option all the time if you like.
Most people get round to doing a regeneration of the kernel at some point
and include the configuration of the sound card as well.

Another option is to put the equivalent to the boot: sbpcd=0x... in the
LILO lilo.conf file.
But if you are just feeling your way, maybe just use the boot sbpcd...
as above until you get a better feel for what is going on.
