CD-Rom problems

I have been having a number of problems with my 8x creative drive
recently, due to this i switched it from being connected to the
2nd port of my EIDE interface to the the EIDE interface on the SB32
in my machine.

When I installed linux a while ago, the cdrom worked fine using
/dev/hdc -> /dev/cdrom

I can't seem to get the drive to work in the new configuration.
Do I need to specify boot parameters, if so what?
Also how? I'm using loadlin for my own reasons I can't have
lilo installed. How do I pass parameters to the kernel from
loadlin.

I'm running redhat 3.0.3 (picasso) with the 2.0.1 kernel.

Any help is appreciated as I need to read some files of the redhat
cd and I am stumped at the moment...
