No, since your DOS partition (425 MB) will be < 528 MB Linux has its
own drivers which don't have the 1024 cylinder limitation. However, if
you want to boot Linux from the hard disk, you'll want to install a copy
of the kernel and necessary boot files on the DOS partition so LILO can
find them. There's instructions on how to do this in the LILO user's
guide. Alternatively, you are likely to have enough room for a small
root partition. In this case, make the root partition so it fits within
1024 cylinders, and make separate partitions for the /usr and
/var/spool/news trees, which will be mounted in /etc/fstab

FYI, I have a similar setup. My Linux box has a 1.2 gig drive. I have
a 450 MB DOS partition, 32 MB swap and 2 Linux partitions (600 MB and
100 MB). To boot Linux with LILO, I've done the following:

Mount the DOS disk (It's mounted as /msdosc in /etc/fstab)

Create a subdirectory on the DOS partition for the kernel and LILO's
boot files. (C:\LINUX - known as /msdosc/linux in Linux).

Copy the kernel and everything in /boot to to /msdosc/linux

Make /boot a symbolic link to /msdosc/linux

Edit /etc/lilo.conf to tell LILO where the kernel can be found

run /sbin/lilo

If you reboot at this point, you should be able to get Linux running.
:-)

Note: If you defrag your DOS drive, you'll have to boot Linux off
floppy and run LILO again. Of course, you can set the DOS system
attributes on these files, so they won't get moved around during a
defrag. :-)

... By the time I have money to burn, my fire will be out.
