I was running Slackware 3.0.0 at home, and had been given a RedHat 3.0.3 (Picasso) CD to try, so I installed it on my machine at work. Knowing that I have an "iffy" network card (Intel EtherExpress), I decided to try it anyway, compiled a kernel (1.2.13) with network support then tried a few tests. The system crashed regularly. I installed Slackware 3.0.0 on the machine, compiled another kernel (1.2.13, again with Intel EtherExpress support), and voila - most problems have disappeared. It still crashes, but nowhere near as often, so I must admit that overall I'm still *much* happier with Slackware than RedHat. Each to their own. :-) I certainly hope Slackware continues to be updated with the newer (2.0.0) kernel, libs, compiler, XFree86 and so forth... Cheers.. dave
