I'm trying to install the latest redhat linux on a 486 with 4Mb ram and 600 Mb HD. The hard disk has been repartitioned as per instructions. Linux boots from the boot floppy Ok, prompts me for the first ramdisk, and installs the contents of the ram disk without any problem. Then it says VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) can't open /etc/mtab: Out of memory not enough memory ... RHL: Insert ramdisk 2 and press Enter RAMDISK2: Loading 1440 blocks into RAM diskcouldn't write 16 blocks. OK, it looks as if I need to get more RAM, but I thought Linux could be installed on a machine with only 4Mb of RAM. Can anyone confirm that I need more RAM to install RedHat, or tell me what might be wrong ? Thanks Roger
