I recently installed a 2.5 Gig disk as a secondary IDE device
(third hard drive), and had no problems with Linux recognizing or
using the drive. (Dos was another matter). I didn't do anything.
Kernel version 1.2.13.
I'm not sure about boot partitions.

I've found that a lot of retailers now do, but they are a little old,
or just out of stock of new ones. Swap-meets are a good place to find
them... except then you are tempted to buy other things...
