I was fixing Linux on a friend's PC lately, with Linux on a Quantum 540mb drive (hdc); I had to specify hdb=c,h,s but after that there were no problems. We were using LBA in the BIOS (Award PCI) but Linux was not translating automatically, cause unknown. > 450MB DOS partition and the rest Linux and swap. I have two 500mb DOS partitions before the 500mb Linux partition, and LILO has no complaints. Linux autotranslates the geometry properly. hamish Hamish Moffatt | Rising Software, Melbourne, Australia Phone: +61 19 429 086 | Email: rising@rising.com.au hamish@rising.com.au | Phone: +61 3 9894 4060 moffatt@yallara.cs.rmit.edu.au | Fax: +61 3 9894 3362 Cloud Nine BBS: +61 3 9886 5195 | Web: http://www.rising.com.au --- GoldED/P32 2.42.G1219+
