With Slackware you have to use "rawrite" to create both a boot floopy
_and_ a root floppy (not just a boot floppy). With Red Hat on the
other hand you have to use rawrite to create a boot floppy and _two_
root floppies.

The boot floppy installs the Linux kernel. The root floppy is a very
basic file system to get you started, and is absolutely necessary.
Once you have installed Linux on a hard drive you no longer need a
root floppy.

An excellent place to start is reading any one of many excellent
books on installing Linux. You could try "Running Linux" from
O'Reilly and Associates. If you are installing from an Infomagic CD
there's a very brief installation booklet supplied as well.

It's best to regard the first couple of attempts at installing
Slackware as trial runs. Once you know what to expect it becomes far
far easier.
