The trick is that the root > partition is below the 1024 limit - so this is easy to achieve. From my experience this isn't necessary; I have a WD 1.6gb drive, with 16 heads, 63 sectors and 3148 cylinders. Linux lives in the final 500mb of the drive, ie well after 1024 cylinders. Linux automatically translates the disk geometry from 3148/16/63 to 767/64/63, which works fine with LILO. (Actually, >16 heads shouldn't be valid, but seems to work). And Linux translates my 540mb >drive from 1048/16/63 to 524/32/63. Linux 1.2.x seems to have some problems with this autotranslation; often it doesn't do it. Linux 1.3 is fine though. hamish Hamish Moffatt | Rising Software, Melbourne, Australia Phone: +61 19 429 086 | Email: rising@rising.com.au hamish@rising.com.au | Phone: +61 3 9894 4060 moffatt@yallara.cs.rmit.edu.au | Fax: +61 3 9894 3362 Cloud Nine BBS: +61 3 9886 5195 | Web: http://www.rising.com.au --- GoldED/P32 2.42.G1219+
