Hi all,
I recently made the move from 1.2.13 to the newer kernels and am having some
problems with the keyboard.
I upgraded to 1.3.96 along with all the associated libs, gcc, make, procps etc
and things were running smoothly.. But when i type something a little to
fast or try to hold down to many keys at once i get an error message.
keyboard error written to the console making a mess of whatever was on
the screen previously.. This is VERY annoying.. Another problem is with
jove.. When i am editing something and inserting into a line of text
it will print an extra space for each character i type to the screen..
a redraw (^L) returns things to the way they should be..
The latter i suspect to be a problem with termcap.(using 2.0.8) ?
since i can eradicate this problem by exporting TERM=vt100 and the
problem goes away..

The keyboard error message to console though is still bugging me..
I have patched my way up to 1.3.100 and the problem still persists...
I checked my /var/adm/syslog and noticed that on odd occassions under
1.2.13 i got errors with the keyboard reported to the log file..

Apr 12 11:23:22 drake kernel: keyboard error

but now it gets reported to the console (yech) as well as syslog..
Here a small snippet of todays syslog..

May 12 12:22:35 drake kernel: keyboard error
May 12 12:25:48 drake kernel: keyboard error
May 12 12:26:41 drake last message repeated 6 times
May 12 13:11:43 drake kernel: keyboard error
May 12 14:09:40 drake kernel: keyboard error
May 12 14:10:01 drake last message repeated 2 times
May 12 16:15:48 drake kernel: keyboard error
May 12 16:28:22 drake kernel: keyboard error

Anyway.. its driving me crazy.. Anyone else having this problem or know how
to fix it..
(i thought of /* */'ing the line in /usr/src/linux/drivers/char/keyboard.c
but that seems a little extreme.. since the kernel never used to have soo
many problems with the keyboard so why should it now ? out of sight out of
mind is not really the solution i am after ;) )

Thanks for any help..
Please email as i have a tendency to miss articles in the busy linux
newsgroups ;)
