I recently attempted to install linux on a 100meg partition, set by FIPS. My other OS is dos + win95(over 3.1). I set the swap space first, at 10meg. and then the linux native at 90meg, eg. /dev/hda2 10m /dev/hda3 90m. I then found yhat linux didn't like being installed past the 1023 cylinder. My last cylinder is 1057 and the hard drive is an ide 540meg. The BIOS is a phoenix 1.01 witha 32bit bus ram. Anyway, after creating the partitions, I went to install and nothing happened because the linux boot partition was over 1023 (complaint message from setup. Subsequently, I have installed linux on a trial bases with UMSDOS. It's a great system, but because I've only got 8meg of RAM I need a partition for a swap file. So I'm going to do the whole thing properly. Delete everything. Create three partitions. 300meg for windows, 180 for linux and a 20 meg swap. Eventually the point! Because of this 1057 cylinder. Can I install win95 on /dev/hda1 Linux native on /dev/hda2 and swap on /dev/hda3? This should mean the swap partition should only be in this range. The book I had said to install the swap first and then the linux native in /dev/hda3. sorry for the long post but I am very new to linux (not new to unix)and I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing Thanks steve
