It is really quite simple - first read PPP howto.
Basic steps are:
1. Make sure your kernel has support for PPP (you see reference to
PPP when booting) and you have pppd and chat (usually in /usr/sbin)
2. Find out what prompts your ISP login has, ie. when you dialin with
Seyon you probably see something like:
Login: or Username:
Password:
menu or gargage characters.
3. Try running pppd (may need to be root):
> /usr/sbin/pppd connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v "" ATDT5551212\
CONNECT "" ername: mander ssword: yourpasswd'\
/dev/modem 38400 -detach crtscts modem defaultroute noipdefault
replacing 5551212 with your ISP number,
possibly sername: with ogin:,
yourpasswd with your password.
If you are presented with a menu when you login, a little more
expect/send combinations may be required by chat.
Hopefully you will establish a connection and you can write a
small script to automate things and add more options for chat.
Also it is better to pass chat a file with your chat options,
rather than typing your password on the command line.
If you have any problems or questions feel free to mail me.
Martin.
