Hello,
I have set up my Linux system to use `xdm' so that X authorisation is
used. I needed this so that `exmh' would work properly.
Can someone give me an explanation of how `xauth' works? I would like
to give a remote machine access to my machine. How do I do it? I
have read the xauth man page and it uses a command like:
% xauth extract - $DISPLAY | rsh otherhost xauth merge -
This looks ok, but the otherhost I am trying to give permission does
not have (and is not allowed to have) a `.rhosts' file. So the above
`rsh' command fails with permission denied.
I would like to keep the xhosts list clear. ie, I do (and `exmh' does)
an `xhost -' to empty the list.
Also will I have a problem that my local hostname is
`hornetnest.org.au' while the remote machines know the hostname as
`hornetnest.sd.monash.edu.au'? The link is via PPP.
Thanks,
Glenn.
