Hi,
I have been attempting to install on my no-name 386clone, and
have come unstuck at the first hurdle. I hope someone may suggest some
solutions, or if have come across a similiar problem then suggest a remedy.
First the PROBLEM :
In trying to install from a CD-ROM, I encountered problems so I copied
the relevant slackware files to my 2nd of 2 hard drives. Unfortunately, when
I use the bootdisk (and there is a rootdisk), the partitions on the 2nd hard
drive ARE not recongised correctly. As is the case at the moment, the second
hard drive is a 540M Seagate drive, with 4 MSDOS partitions each of about 130M
each
and are labelled d: - g:
When I use the Linux FDISK to check the partitions on the 2nd drive,
it shows me ONLY one partition (Labelled /dev/hdb1 ... yes both drives are
IDE drives), and shows the sentence "Partition 1 does not end on cylinder
boundary ... phys=(915,14,17) should be Phys=(915,15,63)". Does that make
any sense ?? ( By the way, there is no problems with the MSDOS fdisk, which I
used to create those partitions in the 1st place ... as far as any errors are
concerned)
Just for the RECORD:
The first drive ( which is labelled c: ) is where I boot the PC with
dos, and is a Maxtor drive. Linux Fdisk does not give any problems when
trying to display the partitions of this drive.
The 2nd drive (SEagate) has 1057 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sec/track
(from manual), has 4 partitions, labelled d: - g: . There is a primary
partition d: and an extended partition with logical drives e: f: g: .
Once again, does any one have any knowledge why Linux cannot recognise
the other partitions, on the second drive ??
Any comments, suggestions are highly appreciated.
Thanking in advance.
Cheers,
Rajnish.
NB : I first intend to load Linux on MSDOS partitions and after an initial
trial run, later configure the machine to use other filesystems!
